Born in Carrilobo in the region of Córdoba (Argentina), Gustavo Porta began his studies at the Conservatory of Córdoba and completed further training at the "Istituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón" in Buenos Aires. In 1996 he made his debut at the Teatro Colón.


He moved to Italy in 1999 and made his European debut in Carmen in Padua. In 2001 he made his debut in I Vespri Siciliani in Darmstadt (Germany). Thereafter the young artist's career took off, resulting in more engagements in theaters in Italy and abroad in many works of the lirico spinto repertoire, with such leading conductors as Zubn Mehta, Richard Bonynge, Asher Fisch, Renato Palumbo, Daniel Oren, Frédéric Chaslin, Riccardo Chailly, Donato Renzetti and Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Donato Renzetti, Miguel Martinez,and with such stage directors as Gian Carlo Del Monaco,Franco Zeffirelli and Pierluigi Pizzi, Gilbert Deflo etc.

During his career he took part in important productions, including I Pagliacci at Wiener Staatsoper, Manon Lescaut at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Puccini's Le Villi at Liceu de Barcelona, Ernani at Opéra de Liège, Manon Lescaut and I Pagliacci at New National Theatre of Tokyo, Le Contes d'Hoffmann and Otello at New Israeli Opera of Tel Aviv, Otello and I Pagliacci at NCPA of Beijing, Andrea Chénier at Teatro Regio di Torino, Aida, Tosca and Cavalleria Rusticana at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Carmen at Masada Festival, Aida at Avenches Festival and at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, I Lombardi alla prima crociata at Teatro Colòn de Buenos Aires, La Dolores by Breton at Teatro Real de Madrid,
